“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge is in God.” Psalm 62:5-7
Do you like to wait? Not me. I don’t think anyone enjoys long waits, whether we are driving on the highways or waiting in a doctor’s office! We have come to expect everything to be given to us immediately here in America. Instant gratification is our expectation. We hardly settle for anything less. Often we miss the joy of anticipating the unexpected or the “more than we could hope for” feeling of waiting patiently. Are some things worth waiting for? We like to think so, but most of the time we don’t stick around long enough to find out.
As King David writes this Psalm, he most definitely focuses his attention on the power and sovereignty of God to save and protect his life. David knew that God is worth waiting for. He knew that waiting upon the Lord is not wasting time. He knew that God would be his defense no matter the circumstance he faced. David was waiting in the strong expectation of God to act on his behalf. He confidently knew the Lord was his hope in all things!
This morning, I know that I can expect God to work on my behalf as a Christian. I know that when I wait on Him, I’m not wasting my time. My hope is in God alone. He will defend me. He will stand for me. He will go before me and defend my character before those who would attack it. He will be my strength and He will be my refuge. All of this is worth waiting for, isn’t it? We can wait in expectation to see the mighty hand of God!
Whatever you’re facing today and no matter how large the “giants” seem to you, don’t give up! Wait silently for God alone! He is your rock. He is your defense. He is your refuge! Waiting on Him in His hope and expectation is worth it!
I love you all,
Pastor Stephen
