Lead me in the right path, O LORD, or my enemies will conquer me. Tell me clearly what to do, and show me which way to turn. Psalms 5:8 (NLT)
The Psalmist understands that there is a right path or a standard of righteous living that God has provided for His children – you can read examples throughout Scripture from the laws of Moses to the teachings of Jesus.
The lesson that I took away from this verse today is that if I fail to walk down that right path then I open myself to being “conquered” by my enemies. No, I don’t really expect to have a physical army come against me, but pride, temptation and challenges that I face daily can lead me down the wrong path of sin and discouragement if I am not steadfast and clear in the direction I should go.
My prayer each day should be “Tell me clearly what to do, and show me which way to turn.” God does not want us to stumble through life. If we keep our focus on Jesus, who is the WAY (John 14:6), then we will know what to DO and where to GO so that we walk in the center of God’s will.
Blessings,
